Honey is not only famous for its health benefits when eaten, but also for its beauty benefits when used on skin and on hair. This natural ingredient is believe to have been used centuries ago by women from the Greek, Egyptian and Ming empires to improve their skin condition.
Maybe it's time you try too! Not convinced yet? Here are 3 reasons why:
It's a natural (and efficient!) moisturiser
The antibacterial properties of honey helps get rid of dirt and bacteria, and therefore can help with skin conditions such as acne and eczema
Its anti-inflammatory properties can have soothing effects on the skin which can help heal scars and small wounds
And here are 3 easy ways you can use honey in your daily skincare routine:
1. As a face wash for brighter skin
After removing your makeup, place a spoon of honey on your palm and mix it with a bit of water to give it a more liquid texture. Then, simply wash your face with it and clear with water. Nothing easier! It also acts as a gentle exfoliator. If you're not convinced, here is a testimonial from someone who tried it for two weeks and loved it.
2. As a face mask for a clearer skin
Apply raw honey onto your entire face (or only the acne prone areas) to remove excess oils and clear out clogged pores. Leave it on for 15-20 mins before washing off with clear water.
3. As a healing agent for scars
Any leftover acne scars? Simply regularly apply a pea-sized amount of honey on the scared area and leave it on for as long as you wish. Honey, being antiseptic and anti-bacterial will help the scar heal and reduce its appearance in the long term.
Note that it is important to use raw honey, which has not been pasteurised (i.e. heated up). The best honey will be found at your local beekeeper (and please avoid most honeys found in supermarkets, especially if they come in the shape of a squeeze teddy bear!).
